Langkawi International Airport is again recognised by Airports Council International for excellence in services and facilities.

The largest island on Malaysia's west coast, Langkawi is famous for its pristine coastline. Connected by air through Langkawi International Airport (IATA code: LGK), it is the go-to paradise for holidaymakers, both local and from abroad.

Recently, the island received another accolade with Airports Council International (ACI) recognising LGK among only seven airports in the world for exemplary and consistent performance in providing exceptional customer services and facilities.

Malaysia Airports Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said, “We are honoured to receive this recognition by ACI, the global voice of aviation industry. This affirmation by passengers will further motivate the airport community and partners to continue giving their best despite this challenging period.”

“We look forward to the public regaining confidence in air travel as we continually implement the highest level of safety measures at the airport and ensure that passenger experience is not compromised,” he added.

LGK has an outstanding track record of winning multiple Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards over five years during the past decade. On that account, the airport has been inducted into the prestigious ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence. The list provides recognition to airports that deliver excellent service consistently, based on passengers’ feedback. The airport has also won ACI awards such as Best Small Airport by Region and Best Airport by Size (2 - 5 million passengers per annum).

Dato’ Mohd Shukrie said Malaysia Airports is driven by their promise to host joyful connections and the recognition is a testament to its commitment and effort to enhance their services and quality standards.

In 2018, LGK underwent upgrades and an extension to cater to 4.0 million passengers per year. Last year, the airport recorded 2.9 million passenger movements, an increase of 8% compared to 2018.

With the upgrade, passengers could look forward to a more exciting retail experience with the opening of several outlets that were also “first” for the island. This included brands and establishments like Charles & Keith, Costa Coffee and Burger King.
