There is a noticeable boom in the domestic tourism sector at the moment, following the government’s recent efforts to promote local destinations. This sees more and more holidaymakers regaining the confidence to travel once again. Taking into consideration that our borders are closed indefinitely, key players of the industry are leveraging this opportunity to promote unique experiences that the country has to offer.

Malaysia Airports also hopped on the bandwagon in creating a unique experience with its first ever Airport Staycation Programme, in collaboration with Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA and Airport Fire Rescue Service (AFRS), held on 29 August 2020 to 31 August 2020. The staycation programme highlighted the airport’s unique ambience where guests were able enjoy an exclusive tour to the airport fire station that surely cannot be found elsewhere. This move represents Malaysia Airports’ brilliant effort to turn KL International Airport (KLIA) into a destination of its own is part of Malaysia Airports’ efforts in supporting the government’s call to promote local destinations. This effort is also in line in line with their aspiration to provide joyful experiences to our guests.

Sold out in two days, the 2D1N Airport Staycation Programme was inclusive of a Deluxe Room stay at Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA, with breakfast-in-bed for two adults and two children. The main highlight of the programme was an exclusive once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for guests to tour to the airport fire station on the airside, which included joyrides on the fire truck, opportunity to learn how to use firefighting equipment and The Great Escape Challenge - a simulation activity of escaping from a “burning building”. On top of that, kids also experienced the Little Chef ‘Cilik’ culinary session lined up at Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA, where they learned how to bake and decorate their own cake from a chef. Meanwhile, the adult guests were entitled to special access to the KLIA Crazy Sale and Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair organised on the same weekend.

The interest in the first Staycation programme was so astonishing that they are planning to organise three more upcoming opportunities for guests to look out for, one each month until December. They are still receiving enquiries and booking requests despite being fully booked.
