A trip to Sentosa Island would be remiss if one were to skip its crowning glory - Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa, some 23 minutes drive from Changi International Airport. The famous theme park features an assortment of shows, street entertainment and of course, rides that warrants one whole day for you and your family to check out.
The park is segmented into seven different themes, such as Hollywood, New York City and Sci-Fi City - the latter modelled after what cities and metropolis "may look like in the future.” There is also the Ancient Egypt zone (think: The Mummy movies), and three other movie-themed zones, namely The Lost World, Shrek’s Far Far Away and Madagascar.
Get your adrenaline pumping with the intertwined coasters of Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON™ and the hyper-realistic 3D indoor thrill ride, TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle. For a more kid-friendly experience, head straight to Far Far Away to check out Shrek 4-D Adventure. The stereoscopic live show lures little ones in with its practical effects, and they’ll get to engage their sense of touch and smell, too! You could also swing by Madagascar to hop on King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round, while a fun and fabulous time awaits you at New York City, where you can stand a chance to catch popular TV characters Elmo, Big Bird and the gang at the live Sesame Street stage show.
Feeling peckish? Make your way to Malaysian Food Street here to ward off the hunger pangs. Sample famous Malaysian cuisines such as Malacca Chicken Rice Ball, Nasi Lemak and Penang Fruit Rojak as you relax in an old-colonial-town ambience after a long day at the theme park.
Start your second day here by having a go at Skyline Luge Sentosa, located on Imbiah Road. Put your endurance to the test at the different trails available here as you zoom through thrilling downhill slopes and hairpin corners. You could also just jump aboard Skyride, where you get to enjoy a bird’s eyes view of the scenic parts of Sentosa Island and Singapore’s skyline on a 4-seater chairlift - which you’ll have to do anyway if you’re riding the luge, as the chairlift takes you to the luge track’s starting point.
Can’t get enough of high altitudes? Make a beeline for the nearby iFly Singapore on Siloso Beach Walk for indoor skydiving. Dubbed the world’s largest wind tunnel, iFly Singapore features state-of-the-art technology that simulates a freefall from 12,000 to 3,000 feet. This activity is suitable for all ages and you’ll be led by professionals who will guide you through your tandem jump, too. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience you wouldn’t want to miss out on!
For a bit of a breather, go for a stroll by Siloso Beach and bask in the glitzy, golden sunset of the South China Sea. Both locals and tourists frolic there and participate in activities such as the usual water sports, rollerblading, cycling and, of course, beach volleyball. Before you retire for the night, check out the charming beach promenade, dotted with cool restaurants and cafes. Tuck into a truly Hawaiian inspired fare at Ola Beach Club, with signature favourites such as their teriyaki-flavoured Huli Huli Chicken and the Hawaiian Vintage Chocolate Tart. There is also a Hokkaido-based concept cafe, Baristart Coffee that you can head to for sweet treats like Fruit Sando, made with Hokkaido Biei Jersey Milk, and their Espresso Tonic Float.
We can’t think of a better way to spend the last day of your trip than to go sightseeing. The Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom, on Imbiah Road tops the list of must-visit attractions here at Sentosa Island. Lepidopterists will geek out at the extensive list of species of free-flying butterflies at the aviary, while the almost-magical environs invoke much-needed peace and serenity that soothes the soul. Meanwhile, located just off the same street is Sentosa Island’s Madame Tussauds Singapore. The renowned museum puts on a fantastic display of wax figures, spanned across different such Sports Legends, World Leaders and of course, Music Artists, where you can strike a pose with everyone’s favourite boy-band, One Direction and even get jiggy with the legend himself, Michael Jackson. You can also learn more about the illustrious history of Singapore at the Images of Singapore Live, which features live storytelling by actors and theatrical interactions, highlighting how the nation has evolved over the years
End your excursion at Wings of Time, located at Beach Station. Brace yourself for a multi-sensory soiree of water displays, laser projections and spellbinding fire effects that takes you on an unforgettable spin.
