Bali, Indonesia
The spiritual island of Bali has it all, from scenic rice terraces and sandy beaches to mountain views and captivating cultural performances – and it’s no surprise that it has become a magnet for couples and honeymooners. Because of its idyllic island setting, many resorts have included wedding events and romantic getaways as part of their offerings. One such resort is the award-winning Ayana Bali (www.ayana.com) which has a water-facing chapel built for wedding events. Another resort that is guaranteed to put a smile on your loved one’s face is Maya Ubud (mayaresorts.com) which is secluded in a valley facing a river.

Sumba, Indonesia
Among Indonesia’s archipelago of islands, Sumba is probably the least known and would probably remain unknown if not for the emergence of Nihi Sumba (nihi.com), voted ‘the world's best hotel’ by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine. Remote and completely off the grid, the resort was formerly a surf lodge until it was discovered by rich hoteliers. It remains the only resort on the island inhabited by 650,000 natives who still practice tribal rituals. Admittedly, it takes considerable effort to get to Sumba with just three flights a day from Bali while international travellers would need an overnight stay in Bali to catch the morning flights. But when you arrive at the resort, you will soon realise why the effort is worth it – Nihi feels more like a luxury safari lodge than a world-class beach resort.

Lhaviyani Atoll, Maldives
If your romantic getaway must include sun, sea and breeze, jet away to the Maldives and book one of the villas at Hurawalhi Island Resort (www.hurawalhi.com), set on an enchanting private island in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll. The resort’s adults-only “romantic ocean villas” are perhaps the best choice for couples as they come with outdoor rain showers and a soaking tub on the spacious deck, offering the perfect place to enjoy an unobstructed view of the Indian ocean and watch the sun set, among other luxuries. You can even book a photography session to capture your precious moments together with your loved one. Other alternatives within Maldives are Jumeirah Vittaveli (www.jumeirah.com)and Six Senses Resort Laamu (www.sixsenses.com).

Hoi An, Vietnam
Hoi An is an ancient town located about 20 minutes outside Danang city in central Vietnam. A river cuts across the old town with old shophouses that are mostly cafes and restaurants lined along the banks. The town transforms into a magical place at night when the sun sets and the lanterns are lit casting a romantic glow on the river. The most romantic time of the year to visit is during the cool months between February and April right after the rainy season. For the ultimate in romantic indulgence, book a honeymoon retreat package at Naman Retreat (www.namanretreat.com)(www.namanretreat.com), a beachfront resort located about 20 minutes from Hoi An. Spa and wellness aficionados might want to check out Fusion Maia Da Nang (fusionresorts.com), famous for introducing hotel stays inclusive of spa sessions and breakfasts that can be taken any time of the day. The resort offers daily bus shuttles taking guests to Hoi An and back.
