Students of SK Kota Warisan and SK Sungai Pelek receive school equipment assistance, along with donation and goodies
Probably the most thrilling part about starting a new school year as a kid is the process of patronising retail outlets around town with parents to check out new school uniforms and shoes – and all the other school supplies such as books, geometry sets and colour pencils, among others.
These are in fact necessities that play a substantial role in encouraging excitement and fostering an affinity for school and, consequently, a constant thirst for knowledge. Most children are readily privileged to enjoy these ‘essentials’, but there are countless children out there who are not so fortunate. And this is where Malaysia Airports comes in.
On November 14, 2019, a total of 121 students from SK Kota Warisan and SK Sungai Pelek, ranging from Standard 1 to Standard 6, together with the help of 40 members from Skuad Ceria (consisting of Malaysia Airports’ employee volunteers) purchased school supplies ahead of the 2020 school session, which will begin this January.
The ‘Ceria Kembali Ke Sekolah’ programme is a Malaysia Airports’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative which started in 2018. The goal of this programme is to give back to the community through providing back-to-school support, additional motivation and encouragement for the students to continue to seek knowledge whilst being focused at school with the aid of the new school equipment, which were purchased during the shopping session at a prominent shopping centre in Negeri Sembilan.
“The ‘Ceria Kembali Ke Sekolah’ CSR programme aims to ease the burden on students with an allocation of about RM800 per student. Malaysia Airports remains committed to helping the community, especially those around the airport. We are also very grateful as this is the result of our continued partnership with Selangor Zakat Board,” commented Malaysia Airports Chief Operating Officer Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh
The first event back in November 2018 saw a total of 129 students from SK Dengkil (one of the adopted schools under the Malaysia Airports’ Beyond Borders programme) treated to an afternoon of shopping for school supplies at a shopping mall in Subang Jaya in preparation for this year’s school session.
‘Ceria Kembali Ke Sekolah’ is now an annually organised CSR initiative by Malaysia Airports, along with Ceria Ramadhan and Ceria Aidilfitri, where children in need will be provided with necessary supplies and donations.
“This is a proactive initiative – not only does it enable us to share the joy with these students, but it also allows us to provide a fun experience for them as they get to choose their own school supplies such as shoes, clothes and other accessories,” added Dato’ Mohd Shukrie. “We will continue to work on such programmes in the future to reach out to those in need. The smile and excitement of these students means so much to us.”
Brand new school essentials, huge smiles, refreshed zeal all around. Let the 2020 school session begin!
