Six-times-weekly Denpasar-Medan-Amsterdam flights expected to provide choice for passengers flying to the Dutch capital
Indonesian national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has launched its new Denpasar-Medan- Amsterdam route as a part of the airline’s efforts to expand its international flight network. The new service is expected to provide choice for passengers flying to Amsterdam which previously served with direct flight Jakarta-Amsterdam.
The new route, which will be served with Airbus A330-200 aircraft with 36 business class and 186 economy class configurations, is also a part of the airline’s efforts to strengthen potential tourism sector in North Sumatera and Bali.
Passengers will be able to fly the Denpasar-Medan-Amsterdam route sixth days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Commercial Director of Garuda Indonesia Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah said, “For the passengers who already have flight ticket for the Jakarta-Amsterdam service, we will fly them through Kualanamu from Jakarta, then continue their flight to Amsterdam, this policy is also applied vice versa.
“The opening of this service is also a part of airline’s commitment to strengthen international connectivity for Garuda Indonesia’s flight network as well as to meet the high demand from the Amsterdam-Denpasar market,” explained Pikri, adding that the launch of this service also supports government efforts to accelerate the development of Indonesia tourism with a number of leading tourism destinations in Indonesia such as Bali and Medan, which is known as a favourite among European tourists keen on visiting the world-famous Lake Toba and the orangutan conservation in Bohorok, Bukit Lawang. The new flight service will therefore boost Medan as one of strategic network hubs for domestic and international route.
Pikri added that “the Denpasar-Kualanamu-Amsterdam flight can directly connect with flight from Jakarta, since Medan and Denpasar are currently having at least 40 flight schedules from and to Jakarta on daily basis”.
Denpasar-Medan-Amsterdam will depart from Ngurah Rai International Airport at 20.25 LT by GA 088 and arrive at Kualanamu International Airport at 23.15 LT. It will continue to Amsterdam at 23.55 LT and arrive at Schipol International Airport at 07.50 LT.
